I look forward to the holidays to be with family and participate in all our traditions… Christmas Eve appetizers, sibling gift exchange, new Christmas pajamas, etc. Female domination still wins with the girl-guy ratio now being 6:3 and with that we can still enforce the Christmas day dress code. It’s great and oh so fun…We all bring our own style to the table. Last year’s theme was “Christmas Plaid” and this year was “flannel.”
I had a (men’s) flannel shirt I had to buy in New Zealand to keep warm and wanted to alter it. I ended up making a funky little skirt and flower for my hair. It was a fun project.
While “down under” I had the privilege of working with Moselle Clothing. My new friends and Moselle founders, Dan & Catrina, have partnered with Destiny Rescue and they will be launching their first fair trade line in 2010 in Australia. Destiny Rescue provides a safe home, love, counseling and educations to girls and young women rescued from sex trafficking. One of the Destiny Rescue centers is a sewing facility where the girls have been taught the skills for a future…they actually sewed the promo tees shown.
Above is the mock-up of the men’s tee I designed. Dan wanted to show the growth/new life from poverty. I sketched the shacks/huts to transitions into the roots of the trees from the logo below (designed by Des Rountree).
They decided to print the design on both the men’s and woman’s tees. It was a fun project to be involved in! I will be sure to post more Moselle updates!
Today has flown by, mainly because I slept most of it. I am recovering from once living 15 hours ahead of eastern standard time (aka jet lag), not to mention this blasted ear infection. Well, my hosts Josh and Michelle (bro & sis-in-law) have graciously taken me in and treat me like royalty. They went for a walk and I wiped together a little snack for the three of us. It was perfect for this chilly winter day.
I present to you (one of my favs), Hot Spinach and Artichoke Dip!
It’s a super easy recipe, all you need is the following ingredients:
1 package (10 oz.) frozen chopped spinach, thawed and squeezed dry
1 package (8 oz.) cream cheese, softened
3/4 cup Mayonnaise
1 package Knorr® Vegetable recipe mix
1 can (8 oz.) water chestnuts, drained and chopped
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
[PREPARATION]
Preheat oven to 350°.
In medium bowl, combine all ingredients except 1/2 cup cheddar cheese.
Spoon into 2-quart casserole…
Then top with remaining 1/2 cup cheddar cheese. A little extra cheese never hurt anyone, I am always generous.
Bake 35 minutes or until heated through.
Serve with toasted french baguette rounds, sliced garlic bread, corn or tortilla chips or vegetable dippers. I opted for sea salt pita chips.
Soooo yummy!!
Good Afternoon! Like the peacock ring?!? I found it in a little shop in New Zealand for $3! I was so stoked.
I’m takin a little break from unpacking (it’s almost as bad as packing)… I’m staying with my bro and sis-in-law out in the beautiful countryside of Virginia. I have no cell phone reception, but that’s okay. I can practice my stick-shift driving on Josh’s trooper (I learned in New Zealand-kinda). I also have the worst ear infection… you know when something bad bc it has it’s own pulse! This morning we poured oregano extract (my mother’s cure for everything) and hydrogen peroxide (webMD’s recommendation) in it. That and the 3 ibuprofen seemed to help, but the meds are fading.
I have lots to do before this weekend, but today I am going to snuggle up and drink some Lady Grey tea while make christmas cards and finish going through my pics from New Zealand… and Byron Bay [Britt, I didn't forget! :)].
Okay then… productivity here I come, jet lag stay away-pretty please!
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays for many reasons… quality time with the family, stuffing, pumpkin pie, fall weather, cider and Lions football. Okay if I am honest, I usually take a nap during the game… the turkey always gets to me.
Well this year I was a world away from family and cool weather, but I it was still a great day (even if we celebrated on a Saturday afternoon). I have soooo much to be thankful for!!
I can’t believe my time in Aussie land is coming to an end, but what a blessing to travel overseas and serve the Lord. Most def not a experience and season in my life that will soon be forgotten! I’m excited for the (unknown) future and being able to apply the lessons I have learned. I am going to miss my dear friends. So many amazing people from all over, life long friends for sure.
Seeing God’s (sunny) creation has blown my mind. The sky is my favorite!! I don’t know if I was too busy back home to look up or what, but man… clouds are SICK! It’s kinda cool the physical action of looking heavenward. It truly makes me 1) stand in awe, 2) smile and 3) sometimes giggle. haha. seriously.
Here’s a couple pics from my Aussie Thanksgiving. I made Sweet Potatoes Casserole…. using 4 kilos of potatoes. It’s almost a sin calling it a “casserole” with all the sugar and butter used, but it sure is yummy. :)
“Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.”
Philippians 4:4
Miss Brittany is back from India! Hip-Hip-Hooray! This Saturday we went with the DTS students to the Eumundi Markets. We spent the morning looking at beautiful handmade goods, tasting yummy food samples, drinking fresh ginger beer and sweating like no other.
We parked in front of my dream house… it was an old chapel that was renovated into a home. It was beautiful!! The owner was telling me how the couple’s bed is on the alter. Cool huh?!? They were having a yard sale! I got a vintage apron.
This weekend I was reading and wanted to share Lamentations 3:22-26. How great is the Lord’s love for us? He truly is ALL we need.
I have soooo many emails to catch up on. Friends & Family: I am still alive, just REALLY behind in the correspondence. Love you all!

This was a fun little project. Catrina is having a baby in less than 2 weeks! She’s such a cute pregnant lady, but oh so ready for this little gal or guy to come. This is def one thing I CANNOT relate to. haha.
Anyway, the invites were designed based on the baby’s room. The gender is unknown, so Catrina went with a seashell fabric (very fitting for a Sunny Coast babe) with lots of yellows, teals and blues. She has sewn everything from the mobile to the bedding and we were able to sneak a “shell” from the mobile to get the color swatches.
I took the photo of Cat and imported it into Illustrator, did a live trace, recolored it and waalaa…
To make the pop-up I printed the front and back side-by-side and after scoring the fold & cutting the bleed, I used an exacto knife to go around her belly. I then glued the two pages together.
In case you didn’t know, you’re a “mum” here in Australia… not a “mom.”
I love how it turned out and hope you do too. :)
Sweet Dreams… well for me. I am 15 hours ahead of all you EST peeps.
Last week my friend and crafternoon bud, Ashlee got engaged!!! Jeremy, her now fiance, surprised her by flying over to Australia and proposing!! It’s soooo exciting and they are pretty much the cutest couple ever. They are having their engagement party next week and I made the invites (they are postcards).
The colors are “so Ashlee” if that is possible. It was fun putting them together. I was able to do some hand-drawn elements & typeface. I have no tablet or scanner here, so I would take a pic with my camera of my doodles, upload and tweak through illustrator.
I do miss my printing options back home (shout out to my reliable, go-to printer, Will). My options are Office Works or Office Works… on semigloss or gloss cardstock. Boo. I’m not a gloss girl except for business/promo materials.
In taking these pic I was attacked, bombarded and eaten alive by a swarm of mosquitoes. Is it possible to get 20+ bites in less than five minute?!? Yes, yes it is. I am living proof. haha. Oh, the thing I endure for the sake of blogging.
Sunday night around 11 pm I was walking home from “77″ (the YWAM house with internet) and was completely taken back by the sky!!! It was sick!! Don’t you just love when God reveals Himself in creation?!?! It is in those moments I am completely in awe. How can you not look up and believe there is a God (and a uber creative one at that).
I walked around (wishing I had a tripod) takin some pics. I was quite the creeper… resting my camera on random cars, street signs and fences. There are very few street lights, so the sky is so vivid (is that possible)… great view of the stars. I have never seen the moon so brights and the clouds so clearly at night though. It was truly AMAZING!!

So like every October 31, I wear a random Halloween costume. I don’t think I have ever planned out a “great costume.” It is usually like 6 pm on Halloween and I am like, “oh snap, i need a costume.” This year I was Miss America. haha. I managed to throw it together in 30 minutes and successfully make a tinfoil crown. What can i say…I just love any excuse to dress up.
Anyone else dress up? Let’s hear it!

G’Day!
As always, this week is flying by… though it has been a good one.
Monday: I bit it hard on my bike. I was trying to pass a pedestrian and hit the curb and went sliding. Don’t worry, I was wearing a helmet, but the bruised are large and I am still swollen and sore. Note to self: “Get a bell.” No, that’s what the guy told me, “You really should get a bell for that thing.” Yeah, thanks bud. Duly noted.
On a positive note, I got a bunch of clothes and this vintage floral print tablecloth from garbage pickin. It was a community-cleaning day, so everyone had stuff on the side of the road. People found all kinds of goodies… tvs, furniture, surfboards, etc! Almost like heaven, almost.
The tablecloth is my new bedspread. It’s perfect!

Tuesday: I was caught in the rain on my bike. Fortunately I was able to escape to the Plaza to wait out the rain- enjoying coffee and a scone (of course) and my journal. Oh, and sad new- I no longer have any white clothes. I did laundry and a headband bled. I now have a light pink Phil Wickham & AVA tee. Crap.
Here’s a sneak peek at some of my journal (not the top secret one). I have multiple journals. Oh, and yes, I am the world’s worst speller… just had to preface. haha

BREAKING NEWS… I played Settlers and loved it (well, I did win the first game)! I am known to be anti-board games, but I think the tides are changing. haha. My fam is obsessed and always plays without me, but I just may join in this Christmas. I will bring the oar and Sage have the sheep ready.
Wednesday: I am currently listening to the “Label Sampler Album” by Hardly Art & Acoustic EP by Kate Walsh I got from Amazon…for FREE! I am ‘em . Go get them- now! If you don’t already, follow “Amazon MP3” on Twitter because they often have free music. Score.
I went for a walk to Salvos (thrift store) to get some old books for cards/stationary and found some goodies.

So far in the Picture Dictionary, “underwear” is my favorite! I think it’s interesting that the little boy has more of a figure than the girl. She’s frumpy and he’s in high-cut undies. haha.

Oh, and they had a peacock! Yay!

My second grade teacher, Mrs. Jackson, introduced me to Tomie dePaola. He has always been one of my favorite children’s authors. I mean, who doesn’t love the tales of Strega Nona?!? Anyone know what I am talking about????
Anyway, his illustrations are sick and easy to identify. I found this treasure, The Wind and The Sun for 50 cents. It’s a cute story. Made my day! Check it out.

Today is the long grocery-shopping day… we buy for lunch, dinner and 4 houses). Here we come Woolies! Tonight I am helping Callie cook a dinner for her small group. Should be yummy!

Later Gator!

This weekend I layed low and read poolside…so relaxing. I was going to go to the zoo, but I over slept. :( I woke up 10 minutes before I had to go and a shower was a required (seven days of not washing my hair caught up to me).
My hair was getting “long” and I was able to pull it into a mohawkish-do on Friday. This has always been a dream. hahaha. No really, it was a life-goal.

Well, then I was cutting my bangs and one thing led to another and chop, chop, chop… new do.

I have been working on some fun design projects… invitations and logos. I will be sharing stuff soon. I’m trying a pop-up baby invitation… should be cool, if all goes according to plan.
Well, starting the week off all organized, here is my to-do list:
#1 Laundry!! I have heaps of clothes in need of washing and putting on the line. I do miss the dryer, but I am used to the “sun smell.” Below is the lovely washing machine in the house. $1.60 per load. Random.

#2 Print Proofs & Assemble Invitations
#3 Schedule Skype dates with my long-lost friends and fam.
#4 Swim… I am trying to swim laps. Not being a “swimmer” this is quite the challenge and I feel silly with my bad form, but it’s in my backyard and no one can see. :)
#5 JOURNAL!!! I am getting behind! Yikes!
Hope everyone had a fabulous weekend! Do anything fun? Until next time!!
Much Love!
Jamie
what’s in a name???
So… I do lots of walking here (having no car and an annoying/dysfunctional bike encourage this form of transportation). Anyway, there is this one sidewalk that has some of my favorite names engraved in the cement… two of my sisters & my dog. :) I thinks it’s sooo cool and quite random that all three names are within 10 feet of each other. Well, ladies this is my reminder of you while here in Australia.

After capturing two of my sisters, I went on a name hunt and found me!! Though the Jamie featured her is a naughty girl. :o I know… why did I put these pics up? I’ll save some of the other names I found for another day… some are quite unusual.

Yeah, Most Def NOT Moi
On Friday I went to the beach and found some great shells! Not to leave the rest of my family out…

dog attack
Friday evening I went for a stroll and was “attacked” by this dog! It was yappin away and as it charged I didn’t know if it was going to bite me or lick me… so I captured my potential last moments. Later when talking to the owner, she called the dog Roxy. Ahhhh, I love it!! (Roxy is one of my best friends, so the fact that there is a chiwawa-looking pup down the street named after this spunky Persian woman makes my day!!!!)

lovely randomness
1>>I did some baking and was a “little” off (about 80 degrees too high…oops) with the Fahrenheit/Celsius conversion. Never having delt with Celsuis I did some simple math… my thought process is as follows: freezing is 32 degrees Fahrenheit and 0 degrees Celsius, so I assumed the difference was 32. For some reason (unbeknown to me) I subtracted 32 from 350 and set the oven to around 220 degrees Celsius (100 off), which I later found out is over 400 degrees Fahrenheit!!! This a VERY humble moment for me… I usually am pretty good at math, but my logic made NOOOOO sense! haha The loaf was black on outside, but perfect once I cut around it. eek! I wondered why it was already brown after 15 minutes!!! haha… oh my. I am pathetic! It was a double batch and I put the extras in a cake pan (below)… this survived the heat.

banana goodness
2>>Update: I don’t like flip-flops. They hurt my feet. Instead I prefer wear my chucks everywhere… even to the beach. Yep, I am that freak that wears tennis shoes to the beach. They are just so comfy (and now have a permanent layer of sand inside aka natural/free pedicure).

beach shoes
3>>I found some thrift treasures at the “Bargain Shed” including some fabric for a skirt and/or dress (can’t decide which) and this yarn.

bundle-o-vintage-yarn
Well folks, it is getting late and there is a spider zippin around the floor. I am paranoid it is going to run up my leg. I need to go home. Sweet Dreams.
Just thought I’d share my love for Phi Wickham with everyone… my love in a “I totally dig his music kinda way.” He’s def one of my favorite Christian artist… his lyrics really hit home and I can totally identify with. They reveal the glory and the love of the Lord to the World.
His latest album is just as good… I actually think i prefer the acoustic version. You can preorder at http://philwickham.com. It doesn’t come out until November 17, so you should probably just get it now. haha
One of my friends was watching some of his videos on YouTube and saw us. We were in the front row at a show last fall. At 1:55 you will see Roxy and I (I’m in a yellow shirt).
It’s friday morning and the weekend is almost here. I think I am having a “crafternoon” today with new friends. Can’t wait!!

I am going to be starting a new weekly post, “EYE OF THE BEHOLDER.” I will be sharing images of cute and random things I come across. You may not think a particular image is interesting, but that is okay because I do… just keep scrolling. haha
Well, to start off… I went for a walk this past week to the post office (The Post as they call is here). I got a little “lost” and was wondering the streets of Maroochydore. I looked across the street and caught my reflection in the pool supply store with the graffiti behind me. I love graffiti, so I captured the moment. I am sure I looked like a creeper as the windows may be reflective, workers inside could def see me. awkward!

Alex Beach is a hip, skip, jump and hop from my house, so I often pass by the skate park. One afternoon I had my camera and snapped some shots.

I was welcomed into my room with the cutest note and map. Claire, one of my housemates, draws the best maps ever!! Don’t you love it?!?

Oh the memories! Growing up we had this vacuum and now “down under” I get to use the good ol’ Kirby again. It is a beast!!! It’s so heavy and a workout to clean my room, but it reminds me of home.

Last week I was doodling while watching a movie and made some posters for my wall. It totally reminds me of a college dorm room.

On a walk I passed this gorgeous yard… these gerbera daisies are for Krista! I wish I could have walked back in this woman’s back yard… it was so inviting (despite the nasty dust storm) and her garage… beautiful! I ran by her house today and she was out watering. I am totally stopping next time!

I’m a details person. All the electrically boxes (I don’t know what you call them) around Maroochydore are painted. This first one is my favorite… so true, “From Little Things, Big Things Grow.” Deep stuff. haha

Without my jewelry box, I set up my rings in a pile on my dresser. So pretty.

Now, I was a little bored and just being silly. Britt, thanks for the post-its.

I hope everyone is doing well! It’s already Wednesday for me, so halfway through the week. Time is flying.
I have been in Australia for a week now and have adjusted quite nicely. It help when one of your best friends shows you the ropes, but there have been some things you just have to get used or learn through trail & error and self-discipline. Let me give you some examples.

Matching Rat Tails
1. Walking/Running/Biking on the left side of the road and sidewalk. Everything within me pulls to the right, but I just remind myself I am NOT in Kansas anymore… I am in OZ. boom, boom, cha. (This is where Roxy laughs at one of my corny jokes and proceeds to tell me I am not funny).

2. Rust Biking. To follow up with the previous point, I have been graciously been loaned a bike. It has seen better days as the brakes are at about 10% and it tries to continuously switch gears. Regardless it gets me around and teaches me humility when faced with a giant hill and I have to dismount and walk up.
2. Wild turkeys are like squirrels. I came in with few expectations, but this was something I was not prepared for. Seriously, they are everywhere… my backyard, the bush path, crossing the street. Out of control. I just think how my grandpa would have a field day here if is was turkey season. I hear you can’t kill or eat them and turkey meat is pricey. Bizarre huh?!

Turkey one the Bush Path
3. Kookaburras. You just have to watch the video. There are some outside my windows and give a good/freaky wake up call. Sounds like a pack of moneys are about to bust through the window. Craziness.
Overall, my time here has been sweet. Sweet as in quality time with Jesus… we go on walks and runs together. I get to journal and read on the beach. I came here completely burnt out and this past week has been a week of brokenness, and this is exactly where I needed to be for the Lord to work in me and use me… even though it doesn’t particularly feel great. Actually it is painful, BUT the Lord is showing me more and more of Himself. It has been so refreshing to have alone time and exciting as I build relationships with the DTS staff here on base.
Before Britt left for India, we had some QT on the beach and out for coffee.

Hot Chocolate

Beach Babes

Wind Blown

Britt loves her shells... That's why we call her "Shelly"
Yesterday, there was a CRAZY dust storm! I tried to capture it, but you almost had to stand in it to realize how thick the air was.

The Sun Trying to Shine Through

EVERYONE was taking pics of the weather. I tried to (secretly) capture this woman. I was talking to her earlier, so it was awkward.
Lastly, I want to share this version of “How He Loves” by Kim Walker. This song has been one of my favorite worship songs this summer.
Until next time,
Jamie
After months of having this project in queue I was FINALLY able to design some wall art for my friend and co-worker, Krystal before leaving for Australia. Her babe (Ellie) turned one this past month… isn’t she a cutie?!? Krystal and her husband chose Deuteronomy 31:6 for Ellie as her life verse. This is their prayer for her.
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.
In designing this piece I used the colors from Ellie’s bedding. I printed on canvas and mounted it (that was an adventure, as it was my first time).

AHHHH! I am leaving in 2 days for Australia! I’m so excited and pumped for this next season of my life. In these last hours I have 1.2 billion things to do and how they WILL get done, I don’t know, but it will work out. haha.
The Lord has been SOOOO faithful and is teaching me so much. He is the Great Provider! I had a Farewell/Fundraiser BBQ on Labor Day and raised over $1400… and that was just from my friends. Wowza! I’m so blessed and grateful for everyone that stopped by and those supporting me financially and in prayer!
This afternoon I am finishing up the packing. Ugh! I have learned I am not the most efficient packer and get SO distracted and overwhelmed. Next time I am soliciting the help/motivation of friends. I have been living in the living room this week and my room got taken over by the roommate room switch. No much privacy, but very spacious! Ha!
I have this much more to pack…it will get done…SOON!

This evening I am going to get some more ink. :) Can’t wait… it was supposed to happen last night, but didn’t work out. I did the design (below). Placing my hope in the Lord has been a HUGE lesson for me this summer!
I am reading through Romans right now and came across this verse:
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15:13
My hope is in Christ, not man, relationships or circumstances. I struggle with that, but I strive be joyful where God has me right now and glorifying him in all I do, say and think.
Be joyful in hope.
Romans 12:12

Well, I’m about to crank up some tunes & pack like there is no tomorrow! Well, I don’t have tomorrow, so yeah…
A couple weeks ago I took some family portraits of one of my FAVORITE families! They are so cute (and tall). :) Whenever I am over at their house I can never reach anything… I have even broke one of Jill’s chairs in efforts of getting Candyland of the shelf (sorry again for the that Dana). :)
You can view the rest of the photos on Flickr.

today i am packing up my room. it’s always so much work and overwhelming decided what to purge and what’s worth keeping. like this dress for example…. i love it, haven’t worn it yet. it’s “Little House on the Prairie” feel is charming. well, roxy and her mom are both laughing at me this morning, but i like it. ha!
have a great afternoon! just wanted to share. i get A.D.D. when packing. ahhhh.
peace!

A few weeks ago I had a girls night with some great friends! It was a blast. We danced the night away. One of my favorite things to do is plug in the iPod and strobe light and GO! hahaha!
Well, Roxy and I ended up “battling.” There are no words, just watch. My favorite part, 2:08-2:13. oh my!
I just have a special place in my heart for tea and everything that’s associated with it. Going to a tea room with a girlfriend is so fun and takes you back to a simpler time. You naturally sit up a little taller and those (often hidden) proper lady tendencies come out.
This past week I was hanging out with my two little pals, Jill and Garrett and we decided to have a tea party lunch. We sat on the driveway and sipped some goodness and enjoyed some jam sandwiches. Well, I initially brewed some Tazo Passion tea, but they didn’t quite like that, next option… lemonade, which is always a winner!
Enjoy some of my favorite memories! I especially love this first one, Garrett praying for our lunch. PRECIOUS!

Then we went on a walk to buy some cookies from Whole Foods… Jill’s treat. She had $1.72 in change and was anxious to spend it. ha! We stopped to watch the local policemen play a lunch game of touch football. Garrett was intrigued! SOO CUTE!

This summer I started decorating and organizing my work space, but got put on hold with several weddings and design projects. Now I am moving and can’t complete it. It’s a little sad because I hate to leave things unfinished. Also, I tend to be a clean freak, so posting pics with my unorganized supplies is embarrassing, so don’t look too closely. Seriously, stop looking. :)
My table is bare because I had just touched up the paint job in preparation for selling. It’s a chalkboard top, as are my files. It’s great because I can doodle while working and add a personal touch to my filing (or lack of) system.
My two favorite parts of the room is the curtain and hutch. I got the curtain from Unique Thrift Store. The pattern is fabulous… such deep colors (reds, greens and purples). Plus, there are poppies on it. My roommate found the hutch on the side of the road last summer and it was taking up room in our laundry/storage room. I was gonna trash it, but taking a second look, I knew it’d be PERFECT. I decoupaged it will pages from an old hymnal (I collect them). I’m still not done embellishing it, but it fits perfectly on my table and under the cabinets. So many compartments for supplies, but once again it’s (embarrassingly) messy.
All this to say, you can create a fun, inspiring space of your own… even if it’s in the corner of a laundry room.

This is just a highlight post… some randomness and favorites. I’m waiting for some pics to upload- this afternoon I did a family photo shoot for the Vaughn’s… I have babysat Jill and Garrett every Tuesday for the past two years. I just LOVE them. I hope the shots turn out! I normally just take pics for fun, so this is going to be interesting. :0
This week I made some YUMMY zucchini and squash… just add some olive oil and tarragon and you have a DELICIOUS side. I should note, in cooking I made all the fire alarms go off… I was so distracted capturing the veggie goodness that I forgot to turn the oven fan on. Oops.
These are my favorite summer yard sale find. While in Georgia I went to the greatest sale of all time!! I filled a bag for $3… and you know me, I CRAMMED that bag full of secondhand treasures… belts, shoes & vintage men’s shirts. It was amazing!

Isn’t this a great chandelier?!? It was at a coffee shop in Atlanta, Cafe 19 I think it was?!? They had a great set up… a HUGE dining room table, benches, comfy chairs and outdoor patio seating. Super functional to go set up shop & work or just chat with a friend!

I just love this girl. That’s all.

This was a fun project… I love when I make time for fun craftiness. I never quite know exactly what I am going to make- it just happens.

Check out my shadow… she’s SO cute!! Plus, she has a new blog coming soon!! I can’t wait for it’s debut! This gal has the BEST stories of anyone I know. You never what she’s going to say! It’s great (and ENTERTAINING to say the least)!

Okay, first of all- she’s freakin gorgeous and secondly, she’s about to be engaged! YAY! Thirdly (that sounds weird, is that a word?!?) she just got a new camera and she’s gonna be quite the photographer, has a great eye for shots!
Okay, this is from this past winter, but still… I love The Killers and it was a great show!
Have a WONDERFUL Sunday afternoon!! Enjoy these last days of summer! Tonight I am heading to Baltimore to see Blue October & Switchfoot with my concert bud, Okey, and Musa! Can’t wait!
I’m exhausted. i really should just end here, but won’t. Hopefully these images give ya a little pick me up. They are helping me already…. well the dark chocolate helps too.
A little birdy told me… (print from Etsy)
Design Sponge was my “go-to” source for inspiration this afternoon. I am working on a couple logos and hit a wall. I needed to look at pretty things.
I just love this chalkboard. One day I hope to have one in my [future] kitchen. I can jot down shopping lists, menus for dinner parties and cute little notes to my husband. Oops, got carried away with that last one.
Speaking of cute couples… check out my sis & brother-in-law. Nothing like proposing to carry lunch leftovers.

On a SUPER exciting note, I now have a new blog! Nicole and I are collaborating to have a blog featuring our style and highlight some favorite tunes and inspiring art. I just love us…. two peas in a pod we are. Check it out. I wrote my first post yesterday! Blogging has definitely become a hobby/addiction. It seems to keep moving up the list… here some of my other loves…
1. Tea & Scones
2. Thrifting//Yard sales//Estate Sales//Junk Piles on the Side of the Street
3. Photography
4. Journalling & Reading at Coffee Shops
5. Blogging
6. Entertaining//Cooking
7. Live Music
8. Crafting//Creating//Designing
9. A good movie… though this only happens like hardy ever. Have you seen “Meet the Robinson’s?” It’s a Disney movie, but OH SO CUTE! Check it out.
10. Being outdoors… running, rollerblading, hiking, picnics, etc
Now I really want a cup of coffee, my Bible and moleskin…. sounds like the perfect evening, huh? I just may…..
Don’t forget to check out Grace & Lace! Have a fabulous night and pleasant tomorrow!
This weekend was crazy busy, but SO fun!! Saturday specifically was FABULOUS!!! I don’t know if I have ever done so much in one day….
I was [unpleasantly] woken up by ROXY jumping onto my bed- she was eager to tell me something and didn’t stop talking (I’m not a morning person). ha! Granted it was 10:30 am, but I had been up til 4 am and it was SATURDAY!! Well, I wasn’t about to go back to bed, so I go up….
We walked to the FARMER’S MARKET… I got the WORST scone EVER! I am completely, undeniably in LOVE with scones, but this was the AWFUL- it seriously tasted like a thrift store (moth balls and dust). SO disappointing!!

Choxy Rixy Roxy and I proceeded to The Soundry and got some “joe.” We had so much talking. I spend everyday with this girl, but we can still have so much to talk about! That is rare and I am SO GRATEFUL for Miss Roxy June Maddah! She is the spunkiest gal I know, has the biggest/enduring personality and can do a British accent better than Adele (she’s that good)!!
We DOODLED the back cover of the guest book and chatted… so fun and chill!

Oh, then NANCY joined us. haha! I LOVE this dress Rox’ got thrifting… I just dig EMBROIDERY. I have a pile of clothes I want to personalized, but that’s not happening anytime soon… ahhh, one day.

After having our fill of being artsy, we ventured over to Pennywise, a THRIFT STORE. I found the greatest 80’s tee, a pink moo-moo I will be altering and 2 pieces of vintage luggage.
The red one to be my new computer bag…

and the light blue can be a HUGE purse for items I really don’t need to be hauling all everywhere, but it’s good for the arms…. who need weights when you can carry a 20 lb bag around all day?!?

The day didn’t end there…
- We took more pics on on our walk home and learned ROXY CANNOT JUMP high or climb onto trailers.
- Made yummy TUNA PITA SANDWICHES & watched some of Factory Girl (umm….yeah- don’t watch it!)
- Sipped TAZO PASSION ICED TEA… a summertime fav!!
- Took pics of items I will be selling for the big move…gonna try to sell some of my “least favorite” VINTAGE DRESSES on Etsy. Why do I have an emotional connection with them? It’s not healthy. ha. Okay, not really that strong of a connection, but I still like ‘em!
- For the last time [sad face], I BABYSAT Jack while showing Nicole the ropes- she’s taken over the gig.
- Closed out the night with an EPIC DANCE PARTY…let’s just say Roxy & I battled…video coming soon. My Spanish and Persian ladies brought down the house!

It’s the beginning of the end of my time in NOVA and I am CRAMMING tons in the next few weeks!
T-minus 4 weeks!! Wowza! In less than a month I will be leaving for Australia! Crazy, huh?!? I am SO excited about where the Lord is leading as I prepare to begin this new season of my life. This opportunity to serve the Lord overseas is such an answer to pray in so many ways and has been a HUGE reminder of God’s love, faithfulness and provision in our lives.

WHO
Jamie Elizabeth Wyckoff + YWAM (Youth With a Mission)
WHAT
I am going “down under” to serve as a “Mission Builder.” I will serving the ministry in its day-to-day chores…basically, doing whatever needs to be done. They also have surfer & skater ministry and outreach events that hopefully I can be involved with. I am going in with very few expectations and excited to see how the Lord will use me. I definitely know this will be a humbling and stretching time, but pumped for what is to come. Many have asked if this is a staff/paid position… it’s not. I am in the process of raising support.
WHERE
YWAM has locations all over the world. I will be going to Australia’s Sunshine Coast: Maroochydore, Queensland to be exact. It is on the east coast and just north of Brisbane.
WHEN
I fly out on Sept 13 and will be gone until mid-December.
WHY
Now this is my favorite part….
It’s pretty crazy how it came about, but TOTALLY of the Lord and I am still pinching myself. Long story short, for the past year I have been praying for an opportunity to go overseas for an extended period of time doing missions, but no doors have been open. This summer I have been learning/growing/being humbled and sensing the Lord preparing me for change, but not knowing what it was… maybe moving? Full time with freelance design? Basically I was waiting.
Well was down in Georgia visiting my sis I got an email from a friend on YWAM staff. I had talked to him about YWAM in the spring and explored the idea. Well in the email he told me that their upcoming DTS has no mission builders and asked if I would consider praying about coming. I literally laughed out loud and thought he was crazy… I have SO much going on at work and I would have to leave in the beginning of September. I was like, okay, I will pray about it, and the following week I did and it was/is SO cool/crazy/amazing how the Lord changed my heart and totally showed me this is exactly where he wants me- AUSTRALIA!!! Experiencing the peace of God and total assurance in His leading is a HUGE blessing and has strengthened my faith.
I gave my notice at work, bought a plane ticket and I’m going to move out of my house and sell all my furniture and go. I have no idea what I will do when I get back in December, but it’s in the Lord’s hands and I am going to continue to seek and trust His plan (and timing).
& SOMETIMES HOW
This is where you come in! This is most def not a journey I will be taking on my own! I need your support, both prayerfully and financially.
PRAYER REQUESTS
-Pray that I continue to rely on the Lord for ALL things and trust that He is in fact the Great Provider.
-Pray the Lord will prepare me for the ministry and that I will have a servant’s heart.
Work
-Smooth transition out of my position in Kid’s Quest and finishing strong, not getting distracted with the details of moving.
-Finishing up the freelance design projects on my plate.
Moving Details
-Selling my furniture
-That my roommates will be able to find a replacement to take over my spot in the lease and I won’t have to pay rent while I am in Australia.
-Packing…it’s my least favorite task.
SUPPORT
To give toward this mission, you can:
1. Send a check to my home address (email me for address).
2. Credit Card payment-This will take you to an independent secure site where you payment can be processed. Please note, there is a 3.5% surcharge.
3. International bank wire transfer- Please email YWAM at admin@ywamwaves.com for bank details.
Thank you so much for sharing in the adventure with me! I will be updating my blog regularly with news and prayer requests.

This evening I met up with Nicole at the raddest coffee shop in the area. That is one thing about NOVA that erks me…. very few independently owned coffee shops, don’t get me wrong I love Starbucks, but…
Anyway, a couple weeks ago I was able to make it over to The Soundry for the first time and instantly fell in love! It was an old body shop and they just open the garage door and wa-la a coffee shop. In the back they have a:
-mini boutique…selling local handmade goods,
-art exhibitions…this month they are featuring “Baby Canvases” — collections & collages of mini canvases
-studio space…for artists and musicians
It was a great brainstorming session for us. As I’ve mentioned before, she is my double in so many ways and shares many of the same loves and passions. I’m about to embark on a new chapter of my life (details to come) and she’s been SO supportive. I greatly appreciate all my friends and family lifting me up in prayer and just offering encouraging words. I’m actually sitting here Skyping with Britt and she just referenced the lyrics of Desert Song by Hillsong United.
MY GOD IS A GOD WHO PROVIDES!!!….AND THIS IS MY PRAYER IN THE BATTLE WHEN TRIUMPH IS STILL ON ITS WAY!
I forgot that truth tonight. I was trying to provide for myself and control the situation, BUT I need to let the Lord truly be the LORD of my life. It’s not easy right now, but “triumph is still on its way.” I need to trust His timing and plan. Less of me, more of Him!

so many fantastic ideas
It is Saturday morning and I am hanging out with two cute little boys. We’ve been drawing and coloring… so fun!

The boys are eating the (burnt) pizza we made. I love that I can blog from phone, but it’s acting up and deleted everything but the pic above! bummer…oh well, next on the agenda: sidewalk chalk!! I am loving today!
Here are a few picture from later in the afternoon. Maybe one day I will have a fireplace and mantel and can put milk glass vase collection on it?!? Just a thought.

IT’S FRIDAY!!! This morning I was in the living room working and playing DJ for Roxy as she got ready for the day. Well, one thing led to another and the next thing we knew we were having a full-out dance party. I was just saying last night how it had been a while. Oh, I will miss this!

Last week Kid’s Quest put on a sports camp for the kiddos. I was there one night taking some pics, you can view the rest at Flickr.
There were two little boys that MADE MY NIGHT. It was pouring raining and rather than shooting free throws they were more preoccupied making MOHAWKS (which I LOVE LOVE LOVE-that and mullets… I know I am weird, but I don’t care!!).

Later when trying to get a group shot, they were playing their AIR GUITARS- so great!!

I love this little guy’s GLASSES! I think he is from the future!!

I have lots of big updates coming in the next few days. Until then, enjoy my BRIGHT BLUE GLITTER nail polish. ha! I had bought it for the little girls in Peru and forgot to leave it there. :/ Roxy’s not a fan, but I like it! Back to book layout edits and watching “Confessions of a Shopaholic” with Roxy!!

I can’t believe how fast summer is flying by!!!! It’s been a whirlwind! Granted, I have been traveling tons, but taking time to sit back, chill and spend quality time with friends is SO great. Last night we took advantage of our big deck and had a DELICIOUS dinner.
Nicole made her AMAZING “everything” salads and I grilled tuna fillets. We even had corn on the cob (and that screams summer)!!! I finally got to use a linen set I got a year ago (tablecloth & napkins)… timing is everything and it was worth the wait (I need to remind myself of that for other areas of my life)! haha!
I wore one of dresses I got thrifting in Atlanta with Justina (my sis). Many said it reminded them of a cirus and/or cotton candy. I will pretend those are good things and take it as a compliment. ha! Oh, and GREAT news… I finished everything on my “To Do” for the weekend!!! I am a winner!!! yay!! Check out the bag I made Friday night on my Julia’s Poppies blog (yes, that’s right I sat home alone sewing on a Friday night- I’m that cool)!!
Awe, my NOVA besties: Rixy* & Nicole.

BIG (scary) eyes for grilled corn on the cob and of course cheesing a “eating pic.”

Cheers to summer (despite the mosquitoes & sticky air)!!

I don’t quite know how to start this and I am still processing my encounter with Nico. It is a situation totally of the Lord and opened my eyes to an unknown world of the lost.
On Thursday, July 23rd I was flying down to Atlanta, GA to visit Justina. Like most of my trips, I was coming off no sleep. I had gone to bed at 5 am all week and didn’t sleep at all the night before…. Needless to say, I always look forward to sleeping the ENTIRE flight. I usually am passed out before takeoff and wake up as the wheels touchdown. Pathetic, I know.
Considering my sleep schedule, I was anticipating catching up on some zzzzz’s. I was bummed when I realized I had an aisle seat, but my neighbor was tuned into his iPod, so I didn’t have to be social. I know it’s completely selfish and not Christ-like, but the one thing I dread on a flight is having a talker next to me (especially on the way to my destination). The way home I am always a little more “open” to chatting (who isn’t when they are well-rested?!?!).
I quickly fell asleep, but woke up. It probably wasn’t too far along into my flight. This was quite disturbing, but I tried to make the most of it. I pulled out my moleskin and started updating my “To-Do” list. Shortly after the stewardess came around taking drink ordered. I copied my neighbor and got water and peanuts. Placing his order caused him to remove his headphones and create the perfect opportunity for small talk with me- awesome. I know as a believer we should be praying for opportunities to share our faith and I do. There are some that pray that they’ll have opportunities in situations on flights. I should, but don’t and honestly, hope for the opposite- complete silence and (of course) sleep.
I had pegged my neighbor for an ambitious college student. While boarding the plane, I noticed a “National Leadership Conference” lanyard hanging from his back pocket. I assumed he was heading home to make a difference back at some state school down in Georgia. I was WAY off.
While making small talk, the first and basic question you ask is, “What do you do?” Naturally, I responding that I work at a church outside Washington DC. I am tempted to cop–out sometimes and just say I do marketing (which is totally the truth), but it is WHO I am doing marketing for & WHY I am doing it that is important. Plus, they will ultimately ask for which company because their sister’s nephew’s brother does marketing at “So & So.” I’ve learned to just put it out there because it’s not my job to make a stranger feel completely comfortable. However, once they learn you work at a church, people always seem to sit up a little straighter, cuss a little less and share happy stories of butterflies and rainbows.
Well in talking to my new travel bud, I foolishly asked what he does. He shakes his necklace. I don’t get it and he repeated the gesture. Ummmm…. I see a bottle top on balled chain and then the dog tags. Ohhhh.. yeah- not a proud moment. He proceeds to tell me he serves with the Marines and has been in Africa for the past four years. He’d been back in the States for the past two weeks, but he reenlisted and was heading back soon.
The rest of this story is probably out of order because I have a HORRIBLE memory. I wanted to take notes as he was talking to me, but thought it may be rude. I am trying my best to recall our conversation, but we kept coming back to certain topics or stories and with each “revisit” he’d share a little more about himself and his struggles and doubts.
This is the story of Nico. A young, American soldier, feeling forgotten in the heart of Somalia, Africa while being sought after by the God of the universe.
I am not sure how many posts this will take, but over the next couple weeks I hope to finish. Nico has been on my mind nonstop for the past week, please be praying for him!
Ahhhh…. the weekend is finally here (well after 8 hrs of working), but I cannot wait!!!! I have been out of town what seems like all summer, so to have a normal relaxing weekend is super appealing! This morning I was brainstorming what I wanted to do. Since I am a master To-Do List gal, I thought I’d share my plans.
1. I REALLY want to see 500 Days of Summer! Any takers?!?

2. JOURNALLING!!! I am thinking a nice cup of coffee or tea and sitting on my back deck and going to town! For me, journalling is a HUGE processing tool. It’s a time for me to write out my prayers and just tell the Lord what’s on my heart and share my hopes, dreams and fears.
3. Hanging out with Miss Katy Kirk. Hopefully we can least grab coffee or something. It takes MONTHS to get anything on the calendar- busy girls.
4. Getting ALL DONE with ALL IN. My good friend/big brother/foster dad (ha!), Will Cravens wrote a one year devotional called All In. We used to have it broken down into monthly books, but it’s now combined it into four. The redesign is almost done!!!
5. Make a special bday gift for Miss Abby! I have a great (secret) idea of what I want, but hopefully it can come to fruitition! It may or may not involve owls! We’ll see!
6. Sunday night I will be at the AFTER PARTY!!! If you live in the DC Metro Area- CHECK IT OUT!
7. I would say I am going to be ambitious and finish up my workroom downstair, take photos of projects for my portfolio and finish up some smaller design projects, but I am going to take it one hour at a time. I always create this huge list and only get through 3 things and feel like a failure. Not this weekend I am setting myself up for success!! ha!
My bff moved to Australia for YWAM’s DTS program. I got to briefly chat Britt and her beau! It’s funny bc they buy so many gigs of internet that you get to use and by the end of the month you have almost used it all & it is uber slow, but then when the month starts over you get more and its fast again….Today technically being July 31, it was cutting out and I could barely understand what she was saying. Days like today I am so grateful for technology. Makes it that much easier for my long-distance relationships.

Say Cheese!

Yeah, they are pretty stickin cute!!!

I love all Matt's random expressions. It was quite entertaining.
Britt, this was the package I tried to send you, but I saved $10 by switching to the USPS priority box. Yes, I am ALWAYS looking for the best deal! :)

Destination: Oz
On a separate note, tonight I hung out with another bff, Nicole. I just LOVE our time together! We always have a great meal, fabulous conversation and some sort of adventure. We went to a show at Jammin Java. It was a little more hard core than my norm, but good nonetheless; however, I would recommend the band look up the word “mellow” in Webster. In fact, I will do the work for you… Mellow: soft and rich, as sound, tones, color, or light. This is NOT what we experienced when they slowed down to play a couple “mellow” tunes. ha!

The past couple months the Lord has been teaching and reminding me about what my hope should be in. I would catching myself placing my hope in circumstance, relationships, etc. knowing full well that the Lord Jesus Christ is the only one that truly satisfies. He calls us to TRUST Him with EVERYTHING, at ALL times. I need that reminder, daily.
Romans 8:24-25 For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.
Romans 12:12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
1 Timothy 4:9-11 This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance (and for this we labor and strive), that we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, and especially of those who believe. Command and teach these things.
I was reading My Utmost for His Highest this morning and “Ozzy”was talking about the here and now and living for that. It really got me thinking and convicted me how I often focus on “tomorrow” and what it may bring rather than on today/this moment. Here’s a little glimpse of today’s devotional.
“We have an idea that God is leading us to a particular end, a desired goal; He is not. The question of getting to a particular end is a mere incident. What we call the process, God calls the end…. His purpose is that I depend on Him and on His power now. God is not working towards a particular finish; His end is the process… It is the process, not the end, which is glorifying to God.”
I was listening to Hillsong United while at the pool tonight. “Freedom is Here” is the first song on their latest album and I have heard it (and sang it) like 1.2 trillion times this summer, but man- tonight it hit home. I’m praying through a couple different areas in my life, surrendering them over to the Lord and seeking His will & direction. I’m excited to see where the Lord leads, but more importantly how He’s drawing me even closer to Himself. As the lyrics state, “Everything comes alive as we lift You higher.” As I seek to glorify the Lord in ALL I do, the more I experience Him (thus making my world “come alive”). That is FREEDOM- freedom from my fears, insecurities, the unknown, my need for control and power.
“So take the limits off//No matter what the cost//I’m running after Your call//And I will run this race//See You face to face//So let Your power overflow”
Freedom Is Here
By Hillsong United from the album Across the Earth: Tear Down The Walls
The future comes alive
You speak Your word and I
I’m running into Your hope
Because I’ve seen Your light
You bring my world to life
I’m coming after Your love
I’m not shaken
I’m not letting go
And everything comes alive
In my life as we lift You higher
Let Your freedom arise
In our lives as we lift You up
Sing it out
Sing it out
Your freedom is here
So take the limits off
No matter what the cost
I’m running after Your call
And I will run this race
See You face to face
So let Your power overflow
I will not fear
I will not hide Your love
Your love
All of my life
I cannot deny Your love
Your love
So take the limits off
No matter what the cost
I’m running after Your call
And I will run this race
See You face to face
So let Your power overflow
Okay, I know what you’re thinking…. why is she posing with her project?!? Cheesy, I know, BUT I was super pumped to finally get a copy & wanted to share my excitement with the world!
Last month I designed the curriculum book for the Future Leader’s Program (FLP) at McLean Bible Church. I put many all-nighters into laying out this 346 page baby and even more rounds of edits, but… she is done! I am excited to have the resource for myself as well! I went through the program two years ago and learned SOOO much about (full-time) ministry. The curriculum book has so many great resources (articles, lecture notes, book excerpts from Rich Hurst, etc). Rich Hurst & Lauren Allgood run the program- they are top-notch leaders and are both so special to me!!
If you just graduated college or seminary and are called to full-time ministry, check out the program. It’s a great hands-on learning experience to gain insight of the ins & outs of working in a church, plus the Lord will probably rock your world and teach you some pretty amazing lessons… oh and don’t forget- you get a rad book (but I am biased).

This weekend when in Georgia I had the privileged of going to my good friends wedding. Okey & Leslie are not only the cutest couple ever, but radating with love for others. In their “spare time,” they run a nonprofit, Making Noise, (I recently blogged about an “Let Them Speak,” an event they held). I met Okey through work and he’s just the coolest dude ever and is pretty darn lucky to be marrying Leslie. ha! This ceremony was at Leslie’s house and was a traditional Nigerian wedding. I had made the wedding announcements and knew the start time was 3pm… Okey advised me to come at 6pm. Well Justina and I got there at 6pm and the ceremony started at 8pm. :) It was so cool to witness!!
The families danced in and after prayers, speeches and a nut ceremony, Leslie went looking for her husband. It was great. She danced around the crowd. Eventually Okey showed up with his bros and she found him! We had to peace out early (10pm) to meet up with my brother-in-law, but it was an event I will never forget! I’m sure they partied all night long (literally). They will be having their “White Wedding” (Leslie in the white wedding dress) next year, but until then…Okey & Leslie, I wish you the best!!
Isn’t she GEORGOUS?!?! I mean she was Miss Nigeria- no lie.
Totally captured Okey’s personality- too cool for school. This was when he was dancing in with his fam.
Shakin what the good Lord gave her, Leslie can move! I was taking notes. ha!
This weekend I went down south to Atlanta to visit my sister, Justina. We had SO much fun! On Friday evening we went to the Gwinnett Braves game. I just love the atmosphere of being at a baseball game! It’s just so All-American. My favorite part was watching all the dads bond with their sons- precious! We sneeked out at the bottom of the eighth and Dave snapped a couple shots of us.
Williamsburg is just like your everyday 1770’s town. Cobblestone sidewalks, petticoats, piles of dung in the streets and no air conditioning. It was a fun quick getaway, despite the 3+ hour timeshare presentation we had to endure… granted we got a free hotel room (with no internet & fresh ants on the dresser). ha! Most importantly it was QT (quality time) with roxy, plus I caught up on sleep…sigh.
You can view the rest of the trip on Flickr.
